Excel (Version 15.30 for Mac) will not open files that other users have made on the same server. When another uses tried to open the file Excel displays a message saying that 'The file format or extension is not valid.
Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.' The file is fine on the the original user's computer, and if they share it without using the server (Dropbox, USB stick, email directly from server etc) I can open the file without an issue.
The issue is we don't have permissions problems with any other piece of software when sharing files over the network, so it's just Microsoft Office that has the problem. Is there a way to make sure files created in Excel, Word and Powerpoint on the Mac can be accessed by other users over the network? I've been reading other posts here and online and can't find the solution. Hi JonExcel (Version 15.30 for Mac) will not open files that other users have made on the same server. How did you open the files? What if starting Excel first, then open the file via File Open?
Does this issue affect all types of files? Is there any other error message when the issue occurs in other applications?
Please check if the name of the sever contains any invalid characters like ', /,:,.,?, ', , #'. You may also try temperately turning off the anti-virus application to narrow down if this might cause the issue. Any updates, please feel free to post back.
